Mashing up Daft Punk

Love Daft Punk, Love this Mash Up and love the graphic treatment. Amazing!

The anatomy of a mash up. Cameron Adams, aka “The Man in Blue”, mashed up, edited and remixed some of his favourite Daft Punk songs. Definitive Daft Punk reveals the entire structure of Daft Punk’s track list: the cutting, layering, levels and equalisation of 23 different songs.

By dividing up the sound data for each song and computing its appearance in realtime, the visualisation combines a circular waveform of each of the songs concurrently being played with an audio map timeline at the bottom showing each song color-coded.

F### Yeah! I got a Liebster Award

I couldn’t believe my eye holes recently when I recieved a message in my comments telling me that my blog had been nominated for a prestigious Liebster award. Possibly the first of many accolades, but i’ll try to refrain from getting ahead of myself. It’s not very often you feel noticed in the gigantic world of the internet so even the smallest bit of recognition is more than appreciated.
I was nominated by the fantastic and talented ‘found this, painted that.’ (If you aren’t following it already, you’re missing out). Go and follow it now before continuing….. I’ll wait.

Followed it? fantastic, then we can continue.
The acceptance of my Liebster award comes with a few little hoops to jump through. That is par for the course with everything in life though. hmmm :/

Ok, here are the rules:

1. Thank your Liebster Blog Award presenter on your blog and link back to them in your post.
Hmmm, I think I already did that but they deserve a second link in case you skipped the bit where I told you to follow them already. Thankyou ‘found this, painted that.’ keep up the good work.

2. Answer the 11 questions from the nominator, list 11 random facts about yourself and create 11 questions for your nominees.
See below for this stuff.

3. Present the Liebster Blog Award to 11 blogs who you feel deserve to be noticed and leave a comment on their blog letting them know they have been chosen.
Ok, I’ll have to do that over the next week or so.

4. Copy and Paste the blog award on your blog.

liebster-award2

(Copied and pasted this whole section and award image came along for the ride Yay!) I’ve also put it on my main banner. I’m so proud.
Note: (These are the “rules” but please feel free to do as you wish. If you have 5 bloggers to nominate instead of 11, and you can only think of 7 random facts about yourself – that’s perfectly fine! )

Question Everything???

Question Everything
Question Everything

Simple minimalist art depicting my one rule in life that i will not break. Question Everything! Look carefully, it’s a Q and an E. By questioning everything you can avoid so many of lifes pitfalls and prevent yourself becoming just another consumerist sheep.

Below are a few of my views and how i question them (Not everyone will agree… and thats good).

NEWS/MEDIA
If you believe everything that the news tells you, you will likely become a nervous wreck. Good news does not sell. Sensationalism sells! News reports generally have an ‘angle’ that has been simplified so the (dumb) masses understand. Before you react to what you see, try to consider some of the other angles. Even the most horendous things that happen in the world have more aspects than what a reporter will tell you. Look at all the facts and make your own, considered opinion.

FASHION
Yes, it’s pretty… sometimes. But do you really need to change everything you own to keep up with trends or are you being affected by magazines, advertising and friends?

POLITICS
I don’t trust any politician, from any party. I don’t believe that they ever make any real difference. Promises are made to get into power and when in power they are almost never followed through. No long term workable plans will ever be put into practice as they are not immediately quantifiable. Goals in politics are all short term as a party may not be in power long enough to take credit for any long term successes. When a politician pushes an idea, just stop and consider why he is saying what he is saying. Is he trying to be popular, contrare to other parties, or are they just trying to improve their own personal profile?

ADVERTISING & CONSUMERISM
A big hate in my life is advertising. It is just in your face, all the time trying to make you feel bad about yoursel unless you have the latest things or look a certain way. Adverts are not entertainment, they are offensive and intrusive and only there to make you spend your hard earned.  All special offers are still heavilly weighted in favour of the seller. Buying something because its on special offer is only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway. If you bought it because it was on special, you fell for their tricks, hook line and sinker. Pause and consider, do i really need this outfit?/CD?/game?/DVD?/go large? or am i just buying it ‘because’?

COMIC SANSQuestion why any person or establishment would use such an ugly typeface. It has no place in civilized society.

RELIGION
I have looked into religion in some depth and have not seen one shred of evidence that there is any truth in an all seeing God or gods. To follow a religion you basically have whole heartedly accept an undeniable truth of which there is no proof. Looking at facts, religion has caused more wars, destroyed more history and held back the advancement of the human race by hundreds, if not thousands of years.
Just to avoid any confusion, religion has nothing to do with morals. Morals can be taught without trying to instill fear in a person. Preaching religion as far as i can see is preaching fear. That fear is intended to control and manipulate the weak minded.

PEOPLE AND RACE
All people are equal. No one is better than anyone else. Your validity and importance in life should not come down to rank, job title, colour, education or religion. People are basically the same, where ever they are from and whatever they do. Question what you have been taught, without prejudous, and that is the only real conclusion.

Okay, i may have gone a little deep there, and I fully understand that you, as the reader, will not agree with everything i have written. That is a good thing.

Question Everything…. and make your ‘OWN’ considered opinions.

Comments welcome.

Iron Man 3 “Ironmantone” Swatch Art

ironman mark 35 red snapper pantone art by Alex Patterson

To celebrate the release of Iron Man 3 I endeavored to create some custom Pantone style swatch art. I named them “Ironmantone” 🙂. Each piece depicts the suits that are on show in the Iron Man 3 movie.

All created from Pantone style colour swatches. Each “Ironmantone” is made from 1600 individual swatches in a 40×40 grid. Each swatch is the average colour of the particular region of the image. Look up close and all you will see are coloured square Pantone style swatches; Take a step back and the iron man 3 suits are revealed. To purchase any of these prints send a message and i will make them available at my web art store Mono-Wave-Art.

Newcastle Upon Tyne Pantone Art

Angel of the North Pantone art by Alex Patterson
Angel of the North Pantone art by Alex Patterson

Art by myself, depicting some landmarks in and around my home city of Newcastle Upon Tyne. All painstakingly created from Pantone style colour swatches. Each image is constructed as a 40×40 square grid comprising of 1600 individual swatches. Each swatch is the average colour of the particular region of the image. Looking closely and all you will see is a series of coloured square Pantone swatches; Take a few steps back and the stunning landmarks are revealed.

The Angel of the North divides the local residents. Some love it as an icon of the nort east, while others see it as an unsightly blot on the landscape. Personally I like it.

Tyne Bridge Pantone art by Alex Patterson

The bridges over the Tyne are iconic, stunning, pictoresque and well worth a visit. The above image is the view from the Gateshead side of the High Level bridge. You can make out the beautiful shape of the Tyne bridge as well as its bright red neighbour, the Swing Bridge.

Grey’s monument sits at the heart of Newcastle. Erected as a tribute to Lord Charles Grey for passing the great reform act of 1832.

Dominating the Newcastle skyline  is St. James Park, home to Newcastle United Football Club since it opened in 1892. It now regularly holds over 50,000 geordies after renovations between 1998 and 2000.

It’s a shame that permission cannot be gained to continue the stands around the whole stadium to create a 100,000 seated mega stadium.

Other Pantone artworks I’ve created so far: Comic, Spiderman, Starwars pantatooine.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, suggestions, ideas, commissions. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

High resolution quality 50x50cm art prints are available on request. For more cool art visit my personalised soundwave art and art print shop at MonoWaveArt.co.uk.

Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. These simple four colours combined in printing can create a huge colour gamut. Not sure if its because i’ve worked in print for so long but there is something about the base colour combination that still brings a smile to my face.

The boxes are simple and clean with CMYK colours spilling from them. Combining a few of my art staples, this shows my design geek love of pantones, CMYK colour pallettes, simple layout and clean geometry.

Spiderman Pantone Swatch art

spiderrman pantone

Spiderman painstakingly created from 1,156 Adobe Illustrator Pantone swatches. A fairly embarrasing ommision from my previous Pantone comic post. (link)  (Oops!)Please leave a comment with any other pantone arts you’d like me to create… or repost/pass this on.

Each pantone swatch is the average colour of that particular region of the image. The overall image is only comprehensible from a distance, up close, it is just a series of block colour swatches.

If you like this keep an eye on my web store mono wave art. I will soon be adding framed art pantone prints (Maybe even the ability to personalise them). Right now you can buy beautiful soundwave art prints of your own recordings or your favourite song. Great wedding gift…  personalised sound wave art of the ‘fist dance song’ will earn you a massive amount of kudos points. 🙂
