Harmony Geometric

Geometric art titled harmony. Although simple at first glance, there is more complex geometry used than just segmenting a circle. See the image below to see in detail how it was constructed.

Rainy days 1

Rainy Days 1 Geometric Art by Alex Patterson

Rainy Days 1 Geometric Art by Alex Patterson

Simple geometric study of rain drops in puddle on a typically rainy day in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Love how ripples naturally fade as they drift away from their point of origin until no trace remains.

When creating this piece, Great consideration was given to the weight and distance of each line to mirror natures simple complexities.

Not so subtly influenced by umbrella’s viewed from above. Similar to the ripple piece, the concentric shapes are spaced and weighted precicely. Rainy days 2’s lines are intentionally weighted heavier giving it more of an opressive feel. Trapped under the umbrella but safe from the rainy chaos around you.

Radar Geometric Art

Similar to typography, geometrical art should follow certain rules. Spacing, line weight and alignment need to be perfect for it to be completely visually appealing. I wont for a second claim that I follow those rules everytime (rules are there to be broken – right?), but at least i give them some respect when i ignore them.

Heart cubes

Been working on quite a bit lately but not updating on here so brace yourselves for a barrage of random art over the next few weeks. (Sorry!) Hopefully, however some people out there may appreciate some of my art.

Heart cubes

Heart Cubes by Alex Patterson

This geometric piece is basically a stylised, simplified heart.

Always had a thing about isometric boxes ever since my Dad taught me how to correctly use a drawing board with T square and set squares. From that day I immediately had a respect for geometric form.

I do plan on making some of my geometric art prints available to purchase  on my sound wave art website. http://www.monowaveart.co.uk

Feedback always welcome. Just comment. 🙂

Tanned Girl

Tanned Girl

I have no idea who the beautiful girl is in this illustration unfortunately. The illustration was created entirely in Adobe Illustrator. I used mesh gradients to achieve the hyper realistic skin shading.

The contrast of the left image to the right was a subtle nice and nasty contrast. The girl on the left is paler, less overt and more angelic. She has bikini ‘white bits’ showing she has an element of dignity. The girl on the left in contrast is tanned and, although almost exactly the same image, looks more outgoing. The darker skin tone and lack of tan lines suggest promiscuity and lack of shame.

I could have worked on it more in Photoshop but I wanted the image to be entirely vector and therefore completely scalable.

Goodbye Summer Love

Goodbye Summer Love

An image created in Adobe Illustrator. My attempt with this illustration was to try and portray dewey eyed sadness. The idea was that a summer romance was cut short and she knows she’ll never be with the man she loved so briefly.

The muted pale blues allow the stronger reds to dominate the scene linking the lips to the distant plane.

Free as a Bird

I’m not sure if there is a legal age limit for driving a boat but the kid in the original photo of this didn’t seem to care.

The expression on his face is one of enjoyment and slight trepidation. Happy for now, but if anything goes wrong he’ll quickly rethink what he was doing at the helm.

Created in Adobe Illustrator I kept the colour pallette  of the background to muted greys and blues to allow the young lad with his, quite frankly, cool as hell hair to stand out.

Kiss Like a Fish

The subject of this image was very fond of the fish he caught. He wanted it imortalised into a cool illustration.

Adobe Illustrator was used to carefully trace around every contour. To keep a modern feel to the image, only block colours were used. All sense of material warping and folding was achieved with simple lines.

I’m especially happy with the hair of the guy in this image. It can be very theraputic tracing around spiky or messy hair.

I’m not sure whether the man and fish are still together, I may have heard a rumour that they bought a house and were trying for kids. I wish them and their nmermaid offspring well.

Farmhouse

farmhouse night

A simple illustration study in Adobe Illustrator. I was having a bit of a minimalist moment. The block colours with a muted colour pallette create an atmosphere that conveys the tranquility and calmness of a farm at night. One single house with a clear sky above. Not something I ever really see in the city. I did sneak Ursa Major in there as it is one of my favourite star constelations. I’ll not say what my favourite is as I wouldn’t want any stars getting upset.

The style could easily be duplicated with layers of paper. That may be something i could explore in the future.
