Couple of recent surf artwork I created in Adobe Photoshop. – Simple clean lines and a sense of depth achieved by using regular geometric spacing. The two pieces are designed as a diptych to be hung side by side.
I love surfing but haven’t been to Tynemouth or Blyth for too long now. I plan to make 2014 a very good year for me and surfing …. Even if the north sea is a little chilly sometimes.
As always, comments and opinions are more than welcome.
As a fan of Newcastle United I wanted to make a piece of artwork simple, striking and (I think stylish) 😉 Drawn accurately to scale and at the correct compass orientation, this artwork shows St James’ Park from above (without the usual grey clouds). Simplified line art similar to architectural an architectural plan of the stadium.I would love to be a regular attendee to this amazing stadium but money and time seem to conspire against this.
Artwork was created as vector line art by myself using Adobe Illustrator so can be scalable to print in detail at any size.
Hope you like my St James Park Vector line art. I may create some more artworks of some of the more famous or interestingly designed stadiums from around the world. If I do I will make them available to purchase from my website monowaveart.co.uk

I created this typographic map of my home city, Newcastle Upon Tyne as a personal project to go in my studio. I’ve lived in Newcastle area all my life yet never really took notice of the actual street names.
Weirdly it was quite enjoyable creating this map, but I’m not keen on creating any similar pieces (doesn’t mean that I won’t though).
The map was created by myself using Adobe Illustrator so can be scalable to print in detail at any size.

Simple minimalist art depicting my one rule in life that i will not break. Question Everything! Look carefully, it’s a Q and an E. By questioning everything you can avoid so many of lifes pitfalls and prevent yourself becoming just another consumerist sheep.
Below are a few of my views and how i question them (Not everyone will agree… and thats good).
If you believe everything that the news tells you, you will likely become a nervous wreck. Good news does not sell. Sensationalism sells! News reports generally have an ‘angle’ that has been simplified so the (dumb) masses understand. Before you react to what you see, try to consider some of the other angles. Even the most horendous things that happen in the world have more aspects than what a reporter will tell you. Look at all the facts and make your own, considered opinion.
Yes, it’s pretty… sometimes. But do you really need to change everything you own to keep up with trends or are you being affected by magazines, advertising and friends?
I don’t trust any politician, from any party. I don’t believe that they ever make any real difference. Promises are made to get into power and when in power they are almost never followed through. No long term workable plans will ever be put into practice as they are not immediately quantifiable. Goals in politics are all short term as a party may not be in power long enough to take credit for any long term successes. When a politician pushes an idea, just stop and consider why he is saying what he is saying. Is he trying to be popular, contrare to other parties, or are they just trying to improve their own personal profile?
ADVERTISING & CONSUMERISM
A big hate in my life is advertising. It is just in your face, all the time trying to make you feel bad about yoursel unless you have the latest things or look a certain way. Adverts are not entertainment, they are offensive and intrusive and only there to make you spend your hard earned. All special offers are still heavilly weighted in favour of the seller. Buying something because its on special offer is only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway. If you bought it because it was on special, you fell for their tricks, hook line and sinker. Pause and consider, do i really need this outfit?/CD?/game?/DVD?/go large? or am i just buying it ‘because’?
COMIC SANSQuestion why any person or establishment would use such an ugly typeface. It has no place in civilized society.
I have looked into religion in some depth and have not seen one shred of evidence that there is any truth in an all seeing God or gods. To follow a religion you basically have whole heartedly accept an undeniable truth of which there is no proof. Looking at facts, religion has caused more wars, destroyed more history and held back the advancement of the human race by hundreds, if not thousands of years.
Just to avoid any confusion, religion has nothing to do with morals. Morals can be taught without trying to instill fear in a person. Preaching religion as far as i can see is preaching fear. That fear is intended to control and manipulate the weak minded.
PEOPLE AND RACE All people are equal. No one is better than anyone else. Your validity and importance in life should not come down to rank, job title, colour, education or religion. People are basically the same, where ever they are from and whatever they do. Question what you have been taught, without prejudous, and that is the only real conclusion.
Okay, i may have gone a little deep there, and I fully understand that you, as the reader, will not agree with everything i have written. That is a good thing.
Question Everything…. and make your ‘OWN’ considered opinions.
As a tribute to May 4th, I’ve compiled some of my Star Wars art. I’ve also added some fun, unusual facts. Some I didn’t know until today. As a big Star Wars fan (Not the prequels – they don’t count) I like that there is still so many random things I don’t know. May the Force be with you.
Please visit my society6 store where you can purchase prints, canvases and throw cushions of these works and others. Yoda Fact – Yoda was intended to be his second name. His first name was going to be Minch. Minch Yoda – Weird.
Boba Fett Fact – The braided ropes Boba wears around his shoulders are made from the pelts of Wookiees that he’d killed.
Stormtrooper Fact – In the US it has been ruled that the Stormtrooper armour design is under copyright. However a 2011 UK court decision considered it to be industrial design, which is only protected for 15 years, and thus the armor is now in the public domain, but only in the UK.
R2D2 Fact – In ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ R2D2 makes an unlikely cameo in the form of ancient hieroglyphics.
Emporers Guards Fact – The Imperial Red guards apparently concealed armour, more advanced than a Stormtroopers under their robes. Not too tough really as Stormtrooper armour doesn’t allow much mobility or visibility and doesn’t protect from blasters.
Han Solo Fact – Kurt Russell almost got the part of Han Solo. Nick Nolte, Billy Dee Williams, Burt Reynalds, and Chrisopher Walken also auditioned for the part. Harrison Ford was not even allowed to audition until late in the process
Death Star Fact – In the Italian version of Star Wars, the Death Star is called “Morte Nera”, which literally means “Black Death”.
Darth Vader Fact – Vader never says, “Luke, I am your father.”
Chewbacca Fact – Chewy is a Wookiee (Wookiee has two E’s, OMG, I really shoul’ve known that.)
C3P0 Fact – Although mainly gold, C3PO had a silver right leg. Never noticed this back in the 80s when I was a kid.
Jabba Fact – Voice actor, Larry Ward speaks Jabba’s Huttese in Return of the Jedi. He is not credited for his work.
Emporer Fact – Simply, that he frightened the crap out of me in 1983.
‘Pantatooine’ Starwars art is created using a 40 x40 grid of 1600 (one thousand six hundred – Phew!!) swatches each. The swatch choice for each square is an average colour of that section of the photograph or scene. Close up each square is simply a Pantone (Pantatooine) swatch, From a distance, the whole image is revealed in detail.
The simple stylized minimalist illustrations are created in Adobe Illustrator. My concept was to restrain the images to a square (intended to go on cushions etc.) and use flat colours. No gradients or shading allowed.

Feng Shui is believed to use the laws of heaven and earth to improve your life. Feng Shui literally translates as “wind-water”.
Each direction on the Feng Shui compass represents certain aspects of life and can, (with a little research and knowledge – or Google) be used as a reference to construct a more harmonious life. If you want to know more, try Google 🙂
Personally, I really love the simplicity of Feng Shui and especially love the compass direction symbols and meanings.
My version of the Feng Shui compass are deriritive of my love of cubes, squares and colour.
Note: Feng Shui compass is upside down? (Weird?) South at the top? Huh?.
LI – South – Represents your Fame, the element fire and the colour red.
K’UN – South West – Represents your Relationships and marriage and the colour orange.
TUI – West – Represents Children/Creativity/Future, the element metal and the colour white.
CH’IEN – North West – Represents Helpful people/travel and the colour grey.
K’AN – North – Represents your career, the element water and the colour black.
KEN – North East – Represents knowledge/spirituality and the colour blue.
CHEN – East – Represents your family, the element wood and the colour green.
SUN – South east – Represents your wealth, the element water and the colour purple.
Would love to live a simple, more basic life but unfortunately i seem to just gather….well…. things. I know a lot of the stuff i hang onto is really just clutter but i just cant seem to to throw the stuff out.
Recently tried to have a bit of a clear out but still have waaaaay too much random stuff. Moving flat in next few months and dreading it. Gonna be a big job.
All comments are welcome.
Please visit my personalised Sound wave art shop at Mono Wave Art or my Society6 shop for random geeky prints and cushions. Might add Feng Shui prints and cushions in the future. If you’d like anything, just ask and i’ll sort you out. Cheers. 🙂
Minimalist football art. I originally created art based on stats in the game such as shots, corners, fouls etc. Although interesting, they just looked a little too busy. On its most basic level the only statistic that matters is who scores the most goals. The final artworks are simple and aesthetically considered adaptations of some fantastic games of football(it’s football – not soccer).
(above) On home turf this World Cup final had everything, global rivalry, controversial decisions, six goals…. and most importantly a win for the better side. In front of a packed Wembley 98,000 people witnessed England lifting the trophy after 2 goals in extra time to make it 4-2.
Unfortunately, Germany are now a much better side than England and they have got their own back in too many major tournaments for me to mention.
The 1970 semi final between Italy and West Germany in the Estadio Azteca, Mexico City is known as the ‘Game of the Century’. Italy led from the 8th minute only for Germany to score on the 90th minute to take it into extra time (so far, so normal). Two exhausted sides battled it out for the remaining 30 minutes scoring 5 goals between them. Final score West Germany 3 – Italy 4.
A great night for Liverpool as they lifted the 2005 Champions League Trophy. Milan were favourites before the match and looked like they were going to coast it after taking the lead in the first minute. Two more milan goals and it was all but done as they went into the half time break 3 goals the better. Liverpool made changes to their formation and in an amazing six minute spell score 3 goals to make it level at 3 – 3. It remained a deadlock till after extra time. Liverpool then went on to win 3-2 on penalties.
Probably the greatest game ever in the English Premiership. (despite my team getting beat). It was the typically cavalier attitude under Kevin Keagan that made this so special. An open, attacking game from both teams led to 7 goals, the winner deep into stoppage time. The 4-3 scoreline was repeated the following year, again with a late winning goal for the reds.
Munich should have had this match wrapped up. They were completely in control and they knew it. The German side got cocky and started to showboat a little too much. A loss in concentration and 2 very late goals and the team from Manchester won the game and the cup.
Finally, one of the greatest games i was privileged enough to attend. Newcastle United thrashing our local rivals Sunderland 5 goals to 1. A great result and a fantastic day.
Art created by Alex Patterson. Any questions or if you’d like to order a print of any of my work, please get in touch.
