Han Solo Minimalist Art

Han Solo Minimalist Art

Han Solo Minimalist Art by Alex Patterson

Couldn’t possibly post my Chewbacca image without posting Han Solo to go with him. Pilot of the Millenium Falcon, reckless, sarcastic and just all round ruggedly cool bloke. Clearly the manliest man in the original Star Wars universe. A universe where there seems to only be a handful of females…. and most of those are slaves/strippers in Jabba’s lair. Despite the lack of ‘the fairer sex’ … and being fairly misogynistic, he still manages to bag himself a princess. Well done Han…Well done! – Have this medal but don’t let your big pet man dog have it!

Chewbacca Minimalist Art

Chewbacca Minimalist Art

Chewbacca Minimalist Art by Alex Patterson

Chewbacca Art created in Adobe Illustrator. This piece was not quite as straight forward as it looks. I wanted to capture the look and feel of Chewbacca with as little detail as possible. It would have been really easy to add too much fur and really over-work it. I feel I made the right comprimises in the end.

Although a big fan of (Original trilogy) Star Wars. I have, got  one or two questions.

Chewbacca the wookie (he never made the pwofessional grade – sorry!) was Hans engineer and co pilot is surely everyones favourite giant, dog, man creature thing. Question is… How does everyone seems to be able to understand what he says?  Han can fully converse with him despite the grunts and growls. It’s like watching Family Guy but having Brian actually just be a dog.

My other issue regarding Star Wars and Chewbacca is… Why did he not get a medal at the end of the original movie. Everyone else in the main cast gets commended except him. Just seems a bit off to me…. poor doggy!

Prints of all sorts of art available soon at my sound wave art site, mono wave art.

C3P0 Minimalist art

C3P0 Minimalist art

To go with the R2D2 post yesterday…. here’s R2’s bipedal buddy C3p0. Regarding c3p0, did anyone find it odd that Anakin was supposed to have made him?? If that was the case, who made the silver c3p0 that they bumped into in Empire Strikes back?

Okay, the C3P0 inconsistency is not my main gripe with the prequel starwars atrocities, but worth mentioning.

Over the next few weeks I’ll be posting more random art so stay tuned.

If you like this, let me know. Check out my web shop, mono wave art where i currently sell personalised sound wave art. I will be extending my product range soon and may include some starwars art prints (As well as a bunch of other stuff too).

Mario Dies Soundwave Art

The sound of mario meeting his demise is possibly one of the most frustrating yet well known sounds in gaming history. Anyone who has played a mario game will have heard this sound more times than will ever likely admit to. I’ve played many of the early mario games and love that little chubby plumber. Just a shame the princess was always in another damn castle.

I love the way this soundwave turned out. It actually looks like it sounds so much. The sounwave used is from the NES version of Super Mario Bros. To me this is still the best mario game ever made. Simple, adictive and to this day has amazing sound effects and music.

Portal Still Alive Soundwaves

I’ve seen these before but never knew what they were called. Turns out they have a name other than ‘flaming, music tubes’; Ruben’s tube’s. The video above made me smile…. a lot. Not only is it a beautiful representation of how soundwaves work but the tune it’s showing is one of my favourite pieces of computer game music ever.

If you dont know what the song is from then you have missed out on one of the most amazing gaming experiences ever. It is of course the song from the closing credits of Portal.

When i played portal for the first time i had no preconceptions as to what it was, or what i was meant to do. After the first few levels i was thinking, ‘its a clever concept but it’s just another puzzle game’. As you play further into the game, it reveals itself to be much deeper than first perceived. I encourage everyone to play through this game to its conclusion. You’ll discover the truth about science, fall in love with a true companion (cube) and in the end you might just have your cake and eat it. No lie…. honest.

Anyway, without giving too much away, when the end credits run and the above song plays you’ll have just enjoyed one of the most deviously tricky, heartwarming and enjoyable games ever.

The sequel is pretty decent as well. Steven Merchant as the bot is genuinly hilarious.

You can buy art based on soundwaves at my soundwave art concept shop at http://www.monowaveart.co.uk If you go to the geek category you can choose your product and then select Portal ‘Still Alive’ song from the drop down. Once purchased I will personally create your artwork and email a proof to you in any colour combination you want.

Space Invader (Invaded)

One of my earliest and greatest memories is playing space invaders. I used to sit for hours on a little foot stool in front of an old black and white tv. The choices of games were space invaders or pong on the Atari consone. Big chunky cardridges would slot in and my imagination would run wild.

If sat too long on the little stool you would get what we used to call ‘invaders cramp’.

My love of gaming was starter by this little space invading character. If not for him, maybe i might have got out more, seen more things, had more real life experiences. As it is I find solice in the fantasty worlds that games provide for me.

Games have come a long way since the giant pixels of invaders and pong, it wont be long until game and real world look identical. I look forward to that day. Once graphical perfection in games is achieved then game companies will have to become a little bit more creative in their game design and stories.

Man Car

Man Car

This artwork was created using Poser, Photoshop and 3D Studio Max. It was part of a concept for a video game.

Basically it was an inovative imaginarry racing game that would mix elements of powered racing and extreme sports. To start with you would be pretty much free wheeling down hills with a wheel attached to each limb. (Local leagues and competitions.) As you progress you could purchase new parts and enter races of with different classifications. The pinacle would be an F1 style high powered, high adrenaline series of races. Focus would be strongly on racer characteristics and rivalries. Beating a rival should be almost as rewarding as winning a race.

I have always loved racing games but they generally just concentrate on faceless racing, there is rarely an actual aim rather than just winning against un named drones.

3D studio Max is a medium that allows so much. Creating textures and texture maps in Photoshop and seeing them with realistic lighting and atmospheric effects can be very rewarding. Sometimes just a few simple 3D elements and some moody lighting can portay more than just a static scene.

The idea behind this image was that it was a car nut’s lockup. The grafitti on the walls in the the darkness give the scene an element of danger and grunge. No post 3D work was done on the image, it is entirely 3ds max.
