noir cd art

In my not so distant past i was living in a shared house. One of my housemates was creating a compilation CD. As I was the only person in the house at the time with a computer i ended up very involved in its creation. Her concept for her mix CD was music by black artists. I’d like to say i illustrated the fantastic image of the very cool black lady but that would be untrue. (I would happily credit the artist but i have no idea who it was. Sorry).  The mix disc sounded fantastic and was well recieved bythe recipient.

Using 3D Studio Max I have had the pleasure of being involved in every aspect of opening up new retail outlets. Each store designed for TYI opened up new and interesting chalenges.

Cabot Circus in Bristol was a new half indoor/half outdoor shopping concept. A very unusual concept considering that it is rarely warm in England.

Main challenge was trying to fit everything into another small unit. Along with the fact that the store was on a ridiculously steep gradient didn’t help matters. As it was a new centre pre fit visits were pretty much on a building site. The night before opening up was yet another late and stressful experience. It probably wouldnt have been too bad but as the service lifts from the service yard weren’t operational all stock had to be carried by hand up many flights of stairs.

On a side note, I find Bristol one of the most confusing cities I have visited. No matter which direction I wandered in Bristol I inevitably got myself lost.

The unit we aquired for this store was not previously a retail unit. Also, being on a corner meant we had to go back to the drawing board as far as the store design was concerned. In the end we succesfully managed to incorporate a pilar area with integrated storage attached to a large semi-island work area.

It was however one of my most stressful store openings. At 2am the night before we opened the store was caked with plaster, the signage hadn’t been erected and none of the computers had been set up. Tiredness along with the awful dance music the shop fitters insisted on almost tipped me over the edge.I’m not actually sure what happened that night but somehow we managed to get it (mostly) sorted.

Using 3D Studio Max I have had the pleasure of being involved in every aspect of opening up new retail outlets. Each store designed for TYI opened up new and interesting chalenges. For instance, the store in arndale centre, manchester was pretty much a goldfish bowl (All glass walls). This is not ideal for an art store where wall space is king.

In the end, the store looked great with signage mounted onto an internal bulkhead, organised work area and rolling video at the front of the store.

Unfortunately this store is no longer open but the memory of merchandising the store prior to opening will never be forgotten. The throw a six to start lift system that only allows certain floors and security doors that quickly lock before you can get stock through them were a highlight.

Graffiti – Granada, Spain

Exploring the amazing city of Granada, Spain, you can, like me stuble upon many amazing and unusual places. From old caves, winding back streets and deserted hospitals. After taking in a bottle of cervaza and some tapas in a local bar (Granada is one of the few remaining places that does real tapas. 1 euro for a beer and a snack. good value!) i headed for the hills. Above the city i found myself amongst a free and stunning gallery of urban art. The juxtapose between the new art style and the old traditional city was awe inspiring.
