Custom Name Graffiti Art

Thought I’d share a personalised graffiti I recently created for a customer. It was a gift for one of her son’s birthday so needed to be done fairly quickly. Once the order was placed and colours decided (James’ favourite colour is blue and he has ginger hair!), I created artwork and proofed it back. After a couple of emails final artwork was agreed. It was then printed onto canvas and dispatched overnight.

“Parcel arrived yesterday and I now have a very proud. 13 year old boy and an envious 10 year old!
Many thanks for the service and the finished result”.
Think that quote counts as a satisfied customer 🙂

F### Yeah! I got a Liebster Award

I couldn’t believe my eye holes recently when I recieved a message in my comments telling me that my blog had been nominated for a prestigious Liebster award. Possibly the first of many accolades, but i’ll try to refrain from getting ahead of myself. It’s not very often you feel noticed in the gigantic world of the internet so even the smallest bit of recognition is more than appreciated.
I was nominated by the fantastic and talented ‘found this, painted that.’ (If you aren’t following it already, you’re missing out). Go and follow it now before continuing….. I’ll wait.

Followed it? fantastic, then we can continue.
The acceptance of my Liebster award comes with a few little hoops to jump through. That is par for the course with everything in life though. hmmm :/

Ok, here are the rules:

1. Thank your Liebster Blog Award presenter on your blog and link back to them in your post.
Hmmm, I think I already did that but they deserve a second link in case you skipped the bit where I told you to follow them already. Thankyou ‘found this, painted that.’ keep up the good work.

2. Answer the 11 questions from the nominator, list 11 random facts about yourself and create 11 questions for your nominees.
See below for this stuff.

3. Present the Liebster Blog Award to 11 blogs who you feel deserve to be noticed and leave a comment on their blog letting them know they have been chosen.
Ok, I’ll have to do that over the next week or so.

4. Copy and Paste the blog award on your blog.

liebster-award2

(Copied and pasted this whole section and award image came along for the ride Yay!) I’ve also put it on my main banner. I’m so proud.
Note: (These are the “rules” but please feel free to do as you wish. If you have 5 bloggers to nominate instead of 11, and you can only think of 7 random facts about yourself – that’s perfectly fine! )

Boxed CMYK

Boxed CMYK
Boxed CMYK

Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. These simple four colours combined in printing can create a huge colour gamut. Not sure if its because i’ve worked in print for so long but there is something about the base colour combination that still brings a smile to my face.

The boxes are simple and clean with CMYK colours spilling from them. Combining a few of my art staples, this shows my design geek love of pantones, CMYK colour pallettes, simple layout and clean geometry.

Heart String Art

heart string

Created as a single continuous vector path in Adobe illustrator. My ‘Heart String’ art has an almost knitted feel. Designed to appear as though you could unpick and unravel the line to leave nothing but the empty page.

Would be interesting to see how this image would look actually created out of stitched string. Unfornutaly i’m not fantastic with a needle. I prefer pushing pixels and bending vectors.

Please check out my older posts for more geometric illustrator art. All questions and comments are welcome. I’d love to know what people think.

Starwars Pantatooine – Pantone Swatch Art

vader pantone swatch art
vader pantone swatch art

Back in the good old days at college and university, all my art and design was created without the use of a computer. Anything requiring colour was rendered with high quality art markers. My marker of choice was the Pantone Tria range. Lots of colours and 3 thicknesses of nib in one pen (Although the fine-liner one always dried out way too quick!) My Pantone love is kept stong using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator on a daily basis.

‘Pantatooine’ Starwars art is created using a 40 x40 grid of 1600 (one thousand six hundred – Phew!!) swatches each. The swatch choice for each square is an average colour of that section of the photograph or scene. Close up each square is simply a Pantone (Pantatooine) swatch, From a distance, the whole image is revealed in detail.

Please visit my society6 store where you can purchase prints, canvases and throw cushions of these works and others.

Amsterdam Trip

tulip

Had a little weekend trip to Amsterdam. Great place, lots of canals and bikes. The images in this post are inspired in one way or another from two days of wandering the canals, drinking beer and absorbing an amazing city. Above image, simplified Dutch tulip.

Amsterdam Bike

Can’t escape bikes in Amsterdam. They are absolutely everywhere. I made it a bit of a challenge to be somewhere in the city and not have a bike in view….. Failed!

Dutch Windmills

The 3 X’s are liberally dotted around the city. I originally thought they were a reference to the red light district. With a little more consideration I realised that they were reflective of Dutch windmills. Obvious really. (edit: aparently not all that obvious. Have been reliably informed that the 3 crosses represent the 3 dangers of amsterdam; floods, fire and black death. – Thanks Lena.)

Amsterdam Red Light District

The above image is inspired by the red light district. (Not very subtle) Amsterdam prostitutes are stunning. Definitely worth window shopping.

Dutch Courage

Way too much ‘Dutch Courage’ was consumed in the two days I was in the City. My liver is not my friend this week.

Amsterdam Streets

One thing I found with Amsterdam is how difficult it is to navigate. A series of roads loop around the centre. If you follow a road you end up pretty much where you started. Very confusing indeed. It doesn’t help that everywhere looks similar – Narrow buildings, canal, bikes.

windmill2

The above image is my interpretation of the Amsterdam. The image is an amalgamation of the movement of a bike wheel incorprating the four sails of a Dutch windmill.

Buttplug

Above image –  Paper Weight. 🙂 …… It’s a long story.

Amsterdam Canabis

Above – Coffee Shop.

Although we didn’t sample the local canabis, it’s influence is everywhere.

Amsterdam Red Light District

Image above is again a reference to the red light district and one of the funniest things i’ve ever seen. It is however, a tale for another day.

All in all a great trip in a beautiful, cosmopolitan city. The perception is that drugs and prostitutes are all this city is about. Nothing could be further from the truth, It has so much more to offer. From quirky art shops, galleries, canals, and bikes: there just wasn’t enough time to take it all in this time, but i’m certain i’ll visit again soon.

Han Solo Minimalist Art

Han Solo Minimalist Art

Han Solo Minimalist Art by Alex Patterson

Couldn’t possibly post my Chewbacca image without posting Han Solo to go with him. Pilot of the Millenium Falcon, reckless, sarcastic and just all round ruggedly cool bloke. Clearly the manliest man in the original Star Wars universe. A universe where there seems to only be a handful of females…. and most of those are slaves/strippers in Jabba’s lair. Despite the lack of ‘the fairer sex’ … and being fairly misogynistic, he still manages to bag himself a princess. Well done Han…Well done! – Have this medal but don’t let your big pet man dog have it!

Chewbacca Minimalist Art

Chewbacca Minimalist Art

Chewbacca Minimalist Art by Alex Patterson

Chewbacca Art created in Adobe Illustrator. This piece was not quite as straight forward as it looks. I wanted to capture the look and feel of Chewbacca with as little detail as possible. It would have been really easy to add too much fur and really over-work it. I feel I made the right comprimises in the end.

Although a big fan of (Original trilogy) Star Wars. I have, got  one or two questions.

Chewbacca the wookie (he never made the pwofessional grade – sorry!) was Hans engineer and co pilot is surely everyones favourite giant, dog, man creature thing. Question is… How does everyone seems to be able to understand what he says?  Han can fully converse with him despite the grunts and growls. It’s like watching Family Guy but having Brian actually just be a dog.

My other issue regarding Star Wars and Chewbacca is… Why did he not get a medal at the end of the original movie. Everyone else in the main cast gets commended except him. Just seems a bit off to me…. poor doggy!

Prints of all sorts of art available soon at my sound wave art site, mono wave art.
